I WILL GRADUATE DAY: OCTOBER 26th, 2011

I WILL GRADUATE DAY is a media driven annual celebration designed to communicate to every youth throughout the City of New York about the importance of obtaining a high school diploma and pursuing higher education and to raise community awareness on how to best support our youth.

As part of NYC's mayors Michael R. Bloomberg's Interagency Task Force on Chronic Absentism and Truancy, the I WILL GRADUATE DAY proves to be a powerful resource and tool providing the necessary impetus to motivate students to stay in school. The day is spearheaded by celebrities, high profile personalities, educators, corporate executives, sports figures, civic and community leaders; past participants include: Russell Simmons (Business Mogul), Randi Weingarten (President of AFT), Tyrese Gibson (Actor/Singer, Transformers), John Starks ( NBA Legend), L. Londell McMillian (Entertainment Attorney/Michael Jackson Estate), Rev Al Sharpton (Community activist), David Patterson (Governor NYS), Tyra Banks (model/talk show host), Bow-Wow (Multi-media superstar), Rev Run (MTV's Run House/Music Legend), LL Cool J (Hip Hop Icon/Actor), Dennis Walcott (Deputy Mayor NYC), Kirsten Gillibrand ( NYS Senator), Dr. Benjamin Chavis (Activist), Alan Houston (Retired NBA Great), Swiss Beatz (Super Producer) just to name a few......

The day will consist of workshops, an award ceremony, a pep rally, concert and a host of resources designed to provide the youth with a wealth of educational information to assist with their plights towards academic and personal excellence. Area schools and community-based organizations will also participate by hosting individual activities, discussions, and events which echo the importance of graduating from high school and obtaining a college degree.
